The New Testament (Covenant) – Walk In The Spirit – A Look Into Hebrews

In Matthew 5, Jesus says, Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Paul tells us in Romans 7, “Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.” In the Bible, The Book of Hebrews is one often overlooked because of it’s difficulty in translating and understanding it correctly. Let’s look at the Words of Christ, and the teachings of Paul in Romans and Hebrews so that we may be able to understand the full message of what the Messiah was saying. We will look at the KJV version using the Strong’s Concordance to further expand the original languages.

“For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:” Below are the exact meanings of sanctification and abstain using e-Sword.

As we continue in the next two verses Paul says, “That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of CONCUPISCENCE, even as the Gentiles which know not God:” Let’s look at the definition of CONCUPISCENCE below.

Put simply, Paul is telling us that we ALL need to abstain from sex. Even if we are married. Peter says this in 1 Peter 2, “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” Jesus says this in Matthew, “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” He as well says this in Luke, “And he said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” In multiple places throughout the New Testament, we are told to follow Jesus, to walk as He walked. In the Book of John He says this, Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” Are you a friend of the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you crucifying your flesh with it’s lusts passions and desires? It is expedient for our eternal salvation. Go to the Father, seek Him out in all things. The Spirit will testify to the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, if we only become as a little child as He instructed. May you be blessed in Him as we grow together in the Spirit.
